I don’t want to control you – The song that is playing in my head when I think of this story.
This is what happened. I was gonna volunteer in this ashram half an hour from Cochabamba. My plan was to volunteer for a month or two, and before going there I decided to couchsurf in the city, and take a look-see around the city. So I stayed at S’s house, who happened to be F’s best friend. S invites me to come have drinks with him and his friends and I got to talk to F, who has a fascination for European women, something I would find out sooner than later. We shared movie nights. I cooked fish for his big family. I went to the giant Jesus Christ statue with his little brother. Once, I got sick and stayed under his roof. He told me I was the one and I laughed and said something in the line of this: I am from the West we don’t believe in love. I think he liked that. That I wasn’t fascinated with his Latin American charm. We had a good connection and talked about anything and everything. It went wrong when he thought he could control me. That is why I today love the song I don’t want to control you by Teenage Fanclub.
